New York City FC forward Malachi Jones is recovering from surgery to repair his broken right leg.
The rookie had an operation Saturday for a fractured tibia and fibula, an injury sustained during Friday’s 4-2 win against Orlando City SC.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to wish Malachi the best during his recovery. While we’re naturally disappointed to lose a player of his quality, the overriding focus is ensuring that Malachi returns to full health,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said in a news release Monday. “Malachi is a special player who has made a big impact this season and has a bright future ahead of him. We look forward to welcoming him back to the group after his rehab.”
Jones, 20, was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. The Sierra Leone native tallied one goal and three assists in 14 matches (four starts) this season.
