Quakes acquire M Alfredo Morales from NYCFC

The San Jose Earthquakes acquired the rights to Alfredo Morales from New York City FC on Thursday then signed the midfielder through the 2024 season with an option for 2025.

NYCFC received a third-round pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for the 33-year-old veteran.

Morales recorded seven assists in 73 MLS matches (52 starts) with NYCFC over the past three seasons.

He helped the club win the 2021 MLS Cup and the 2022 Campeones Cup.

“We would like to thank Alfredo for his significant contribution to the Club over the last three seasons,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said in a statement. “Since his arrival we immediately saw Alfredo’s passion and intensity for the game which translated to him being a crucial part of us lifting our first championship.”

Born in Germany, Morales played there from 2008-21 with Hertha BSC, FC Ingolstadt and Fortuna Dusseldorf. He qualified for the U.S. men’s national team through his father, an American citizen who was born in Peru, and has played in 16 games with the USMNT.
