Colorado Rapids defensive midfielder Lamine Diack, who has played only 16 minutes in four appearances this season, won’t have his loan from French side FC Nantes picked up.
Per DNVR Rapids, team president Padraig Smith said the sixth-month loan period “hasn’t worked out.”
Whether Diack, a native of Senegal, will return to Nantes immediately or when the loan expires at the end of this month remains to be seen. When he does depart, the Rapids will gain an international spot ahead of the summer transfer window, which begins July 18.
Diack, 23, has not been on Colorado’s game roster since May 5 at NYCFC.
When defensive midfielder Connor Ronan returned May 11 from an early-season injury on May 11, Diack went back to the bench.
While Ronan was out, midfielders Cole Bassett and Oliver Larraz developed a strong bond and kept Diack mainly on the sidelines.
