Red Bulls shake off tough loss, defeat Revolution 4-2

red bulls, revolution

Lewis Morgan and Emil Forsberg scored in the first half as the host New York Red Bulls rebounded from their worst performance of the season in a 4-2 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night in Harrison, N.J.

The Red Bulls (5-2-5, 20 points) improved to 3-1-4 in their past eight matches and never trailed a week after taking a 6-2 loss at Inter Miami CF when they led 1-0 at halftime.

Morgan netted his eighth goal six minutes into the contest and Forsberg tallied on a penalty kick in the 43rd. Elias Manoel added what became the game-winner in the 84th and Cameron Harper scored in the third minute of second-half stoppage time as New York scored four goals for the second time this season.

Carles Gill scored in the 24th and Giacomo Vrioni scored in the 90th for the Revolution (2-8-1, 7 points). New England also was unable to win consecutive games for the first time since July 12-15 despite holding possession for 63.2 percent of the contest.

New York goalkeeper Carlos Coronel made four saves.

New England goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic allowed four goals on six shots in his second appearance with the team.

Morgan opened the scoring by impressively finishing off a breakaway. After getting a long pass from Sean Nealis from about 40 yards away, Morgan sped through the defense, slipped past two defenders and sent a right-footed shot from slightly outside the box by Ivacic.

New York nearly took a two-goal lead in the 18th minute, but Forsberg had a shot clang off the crossbar. Six minutes later, Gil scored the tying goal by pushing a header from the center of the box past Coronel after getting a pass from Tomas Chancalay.

New England committed a costly miscue that led to New York’s second goal when defender Henry Kessler was called for a handball. After the call was upheld via video review, Kessler also got a yellow card for poor sportsmanship, and Forsberg easily scored by sliding the ball into the net on a right-footed shot that he tucked inside the left post.
