Major League Soccer’s San Diego-based expansion club has picked the name San Diego Football Club, or San Diego FC, The Athletic reported Thursday.
The club is scheduled to reveal its name, crest and colors at a fan event Friday night.
In documents obtained by The Athletic, the club’s official colors were described as “chrome and azul.”
San Diego FC will be the league’s 30th team and begin play in 2025.
The city was awarded a franchise in May for a reported expansion fee of $500 million. It is owned by Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, with San Diego Padres star Manny Machado also part of the ownership group.
San Diego FC will play at the recently built Snapdragon Stadium — home to San Diego State football and the San Diego Wave of the NWSL
