The Los Angeles Galaxy are finalizing a deal to acquire Mexican winger Hirving “Chucky” Lozano on loan from MLS rival San Diego FC, multiple outlets reported Thursday.
The Athletic reported that Lozano will join the Galaxy as a designated player and that San Diego will be on the hook for a portion of his salary.
Lozano, 31, has fallen out of favor this season in San Diego, with zero MLS appearances after racking up 19 goal contributions (nine goals, 10 assists) in 27 matches and earning All-Star honors in his first year in the league in 2025.
He added two goals and an assist in four playoff games.
San Diego has been sitting Lozano despite his $9.33 million in guaranteed compensation this season, fourth-most in the league after Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min and Rodrigo De Paul, per The Athletic.
SDFC sporting director Tyler Heaps announced in January that Lozano “wasn’t part of the team’s plans.” There were reports that Lozano was involved in a locker-room altercation late last season.
