Luca de la Torre scored his fourth goal of the season in the 60th minute and San Diego FC defeated visiting Austin FC 2-0 on Saturday night.

Substitute Milan Iloski added his third goal in second-half stoppage time as San Diego (9-5-3, 30 points) improved to 6-1-3 at home.

Hirving Lozano assisted the first tally and Andres Dreyer set up the second. C.J. dos Santos made two saves to keep his seventh clean sheet and first since signing a contract extension with the MLS expansion side earlier this week.

The result sent San Diego back into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference, two points behind Vancouver, which has two matches in hand.

Brandon Vazquez and Myrto Uzuni came closest to finding the net for Austin (5-7-5, 20 points), which was held scoreless for a seventh time this season.

The Verde saw their winless run extended to eight matches (0-4-4) in MLS play, and they have just 11 goals through the first half of their regular-season schedule.

Their only previous multiple-goal effort came in a 2-1 home win over San Diego on March 23.

Vazquez nearly gave his side the lead with a header that sailed narrowly over the crossbar in the 47th minute, but instead remained on only four goals this season with his third MLS club.

Thirteen minutes later, after running onto Paddy McNair’s ball over the top, Lozano did some exceptional setup work to register his seventh assist and help give the hosts the lead.

Once Lozano had successfully kept possession amid three retreating defenders, de la Torre eventually arrived with a late run.

Lozano slotted the ball left, and de la Torre finished past Brad Stuver (two saves).

Once in front, San Diego always looked the more likely side to score again, and eventually it did in second-half stoppage time.

This time it was Dreyer and Iloksi combining multiple times on the right side of the area, before Iloski eventually wiggled free to provide the finishing touch on San Diego’s win.
