The New England Revolution are excited for the challenge the Seattle Sounders present on Saturday night in Foxborough, Mass., as they aim to build on their second-place standing in the Eastern Conference.
New England (14-9-4, 46 points) is coming off a 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on Sept. 26, which snapped a three-match winning streak.
“Seattle is probably one of those teams in the league nobody likes to play,” Revs coach Marko Mitrovic said. “They are a team that, somehow, over the last (few) years, always has that end-of-season form where they find their feet, start getting great results.
“I’m really happy and excited to see how we’re going to face that challenge on Saturday.”
Veteran midfielder Carles Gil paces the Revs this season with 12 goals and 21 goal contributions in 27 matches.
Saturday marks this season’s only regular-season meeting between the Revolution and Sounders.
Historically, the two sides have met 15 times and split the series evenly (5-5-5). However, New England holds a 4-1-2 home record against Seattle. The Revs have not lost at home to the Sounders since 2011.
Seattle travels to Foxborough for the first time since July 2018, when the two sides played to a scoreless draw. The Sounders won 2-0 the last time the clubs met in the 2024 season.
Seattle enters Saturday’s match looking to continue its momentum and playoff push.
The Sounders (10-9-8, 38 points), seventh in the Western Conference, are riding an eight-match unbeaten streak (3-0-5) since a franchise-record eight-game losing streak dropped them out of playoff position.
“There’s no time left in the year to rest on your laurels. We’ve had to claw ourselves out of an eight-game losing streak, which is recent enough history that everybody remembers,” said Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer. “There’s not going to be any complacency.”
Midfielders Cristian Roldan and Paul Rothrock lead the Sounders offensively with five goals apiece. Seattle’s offense will get a boost in Foxborough, as designated player Dejan Joveljic will be available for selection after playing for Serbia during the recent international window.
