St. Louis City SC acquired German defender Jannes Horn on loan from 1. FC Nurnberg on Friday.
The 27-year-old left back joins the MLS club through June 2025. St. Louis has a purchase option through June 2026, with another option through the end of 2026.
“Jannes’ versatility will be a good addition to the team,” St. Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said. “He is an aggressive left back who is good with the ball that is beneficial in the way we play. His ability to also play at center back makes him dynamic and provides flexibility to our backline.”
He will occupy an international roster slot that was obtained from the Philadelphia Union in exchange for $75,000 in 2025 general allocation money.
Horn arrives with more than 150 matches of professional experience in Germany at Nurnberg, VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FC Koln, Hannover 96 and VfL Bochum.
Horn could help St. Louis shore up a defense that has allowed the third-most goals (46) in the Western Conference this season.
