Toronto FC acquired Irish defender Kevin Long from English Championship side Birmingham City on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old center back is signed through the 2024 MLS season with an option for 2025.
Long has collected 13 goals in 240 pro matches since 2008, including Premier League experience with Burnley.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Toronto FC family,” head coach John Herdman said in a release. “Kevin’s experience will be a welcome addition to TFC’s back line. He’s here to help rebuild the club and is hungry for success.”
Toronto allowed 59 goals last season, second most in MLS, and finished with the league’s worst record at 4-20-10. The Reds open the 2024 season on Sunday at FC Cincinnati.
