Tyrese Maxey scored 14 of his 29 points in the third quarter, fueling the visiting Philadelphia 76ers to a 103-91 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday.
Maxey has totaled 92 points to help 76ers win two of the three meetings against Orlando in the season series.
Joel Embiid collected 22 points and nine rebounds and Paul George added 18 and nine, respectively, in the win.
Dominick Barlow recorded 11 points and nine rebounds for the 76ers, who sealed their fifth win in six games by outscoring the Magic 20-12 in the fourth quarter.
Both teams struggled mightily from 3-point range. Philadelphia went 4-for-28 from beyond the arc while Orlando made just 4 of 29 shots.
Desmond Bane scored 23 points and Anthony Black added 21 as Orlando traded has wins and losses over its last 13 games.
Paolo Banchero recorded 14 points and 11 rebounds and Wendell Carter Jr. added 13 and eight, respectively.
The 76ers were clinging to a 73-70 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter before Maxey made a floating jumper, a layup and a 3-pointer in a minute, 22 seconds to create a bit of breathing room.
George scored eight of Philadelphia’s first 11 points in the fourth quarter to extend its lead to 94-81. Maxey’s 3-pointer from the corner nearly four minutes later pushed the 76ers’ advantage to 101-85 and the club coasted from there.
Black joined Bane by scoring 14 first-half points after connecting on a short jumper with 0.7 seconds remaining in the second quarter to give Orlando a 54-53 lead at halftime.
Head official Bill Kennedy sustained a non-contact injury to his right leg toward the end of the first quarter. He was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair, and the game continued with just two officials: James Williams and Michael Smith.
