Kings pin 76ers with another road loss, 108-96

Kings, 76ers

Keegan Murray and De’Aaron Fox combined for 46 points, Domantas Sabonis added to his NBA triple-double lead and the host Sacramento Kings gradually pulled away from the road-weary Philadelphia 76ers for a 108-96 victory on Monday night.

Sabonis finished with 11 points and game highs of 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the Kings (42-29), who opened a key five-game homestand with their sixth win in the past eight games.

The triple-double was Sabonis’ 25th of the season, just seven fewer than he recorded in the first seven seasons of his NBA career combined. He now leads Denver’s Nikola Jokic by three triple-doubles atop the NBA rankings in 2023-24.

Tyrese Maxey had a game-high 29 points for the 76ers (39-33), who lost for the third time in six days on a 1-3 Western Conference road trip.

Maxey had 26 points in the first half, keeping the visitors in the game. In fact, the teams played on even terms for over 16 minutes before the Kings finished the second quarter on a 24-12 run to open a 60-48 advantage by the break.

Sacramento’s Davion Mitchell had 10 points during the tiebreaking spurt.

At intermission, Maxey had 26 of his team’s 48 points and all five of its 3-pointers.

In earning a split of the two-game season series, Sacramento extended its lead to as many as 18 in the third quarter before coasting home.

Murray and Fox shared team-high scoring honors with 23 points apiece for the Kings, with Fox also accumulating eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Mitchell chipped in with 18 points, and fellow reserve Malik Monk had 11.

Tobias Harris (12 points), D.J. Wilson (10) and Ricky Council IV (10) also scored in double figures for the 76ers, who were coming off a 121-107 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday after opening their trip with losses to the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.

Harris also found time for a team-high-tying eight rebounds. Paul Reed also had eight rebounds for Philadelphia, while Cameron Payne collected a team-high six assists.

The Kings held the visitors to 41.5 percent shooting overall and an 11-for-34 performance from deep.
