Knicks’ latest scoring outburst denies Grizzlies comeback

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns each recorded double-doubles Tuesday night for the host New York Knicks, who made franchise history by earning a 133-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Knicks are 5-0 on a season-long seven-game homestand and scored more than 130 points in each of the last three games — the longest such streak in the 80-year history of the franchise.

Brunson had a game-high 32 points and led the Knicks with 10 assists while adding five rebounds. Towns collected 21 points and 13 rebounds for his ninth double-double in 10 games this season.

Mikal Bridges scored 22 points, OG Anunoby had 16 points and Jordan Clarkson added 13 points off the bench for the Knicks, who led by as many as 28 before a late run by the Grizzlies. Starter Landry Shamet finished with 10 points.

Ja Morant (16 points, 10 assists) recorded a double-double for the Grizzlies, who have lost six of seven. Jaren Jackson Jr. and reserve Santi Aldama had 19 points apiece while Jaylen Wells scored 18 points.

Vince Williams Jr. (14 points), Cedric Coward (11 points) and Cam Spencer (11 points) all got into double figures off the bench.

The Grizzlies held a pair of five-point leads in the first quarter before the Knicks opened their decisive run by scoring the final 12 points of the period to take a 42-30 lead.

Miles McBride’s 3-pointer with 10:17 left in the half closed out the run for the Knicks, who took their first 20-point lead at 72-52 on Bridges’ dunk with 1:03 left and led 77-54 at the half.

The Knicks opened their biggest lead at 111-83 on Clarkson’s 3-pointer with 1:56 left in the third before the Grizzlies began climbing back by scoring the next 10 points.

That began a 33-15 run for the Grizzlies, who closed the deficit to 10 points late in the fourth as they forced the Knicks to keep their starters on the floor. Aldama’s layup with 4:37 left pulled the visitors within 126-116, but Memphis missed its next six shots as the comeback bid fizzled.
