Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford was helped off the court during the team’s matchup against the visiting Sacramento Kings on Monday due to a sprained right knee.
In the second quarter, the big man was setting a screen at the top of the key for guard Spencer Dinwiddie. Kings guard Malik Monk collided into Gafford, who fell down with a visible knee injury.
The Mavericks announced that Gafford would not return to the game.
It is another crushing blow for the Mavericks, who recently lost both Anthony Davis and P.J. Washington to injuries. Davis is out indefinitely with an abductor injury, while Washington is sidelined due to a right ankle sprain.
In addition, recent trade acquisition Caleb Martin is out because of a hip injury.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper played a larger role on Monday in the depleted frontcourt.
This season, Gafford is averaging 12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. Notably, he has been credited with 5.5 win shares.
