Nets rally, pull off win over short-handed Sixers

76ers

Dorian Finney-Smith scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Brooklyn Nets rallied down the stretch for a 112-107 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers Tuesday night in New York.

The Nets, who won for the third time in four games, overcame an eight-point deficit in the final 8:45 thanks to Finney-Smith, who finished 8-of-11 shooting and made all five of his shots in the fourth.

The forward’s biggest two shots were a putback of a Nic Claxton’s missed hook shot for a 101-98 lead with 2:53 left and a corner 3-pointer that pushed the Nets’ advantage to 106-100 with 97 seconds left.

Dennis Schroder added seven of his 20 in the fourth, including a layup with 23.1 seconds that put Brooklyn up 108-103.

Lonnie Walker IV added 19 points and Claxton contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Nets won stayed 2 1/2 games behind the 10th-place Atlanta Hawks for the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot. Mikal Bridges finished with 13 as the Nets overcame a 14-point deficit in the second quarter and shot 48.8 percent overall.

The Nets were without Cam Thomas (ankle) for the fifth straight game and lost Cameron Johnson to a sprained right ankle in the first half.

Kelly Oubre Jr. scored a season-high 30 points, including a 3 that put the Sixers ahead 92-84. Philadelphia gave up 11 straight points after Oubre’s trey, was outscored 28-15 the rest of the way and fell to 6-9 since losing Joel Embiid to left knee surgery.

The 76ers also were without Tyrese Maxey due to a mild concussion he sustained Sunday in Dallas. The injury will likely keep him out Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Tobias Harris added 18 and Cameron Payne contributed 15 as the Sixers also shot 48.8 percent and were denied a third straight win.

Philadelphia shot 63.2 percent and scored the final nine points to take a 30-23 lead through the opening quarter. Buddy Hield’s 3-pointer a little over two minutes into the second pushed the lead to 38-24 and infuriated Nets interim coach Kevin Ollie. The Sixers settled for a 57-56 halftime lead after getting outscored 32-19 the rest of the quarter.

Schroder’s hoop put Brooklyn ahead 67-60 with 8:01 left, and the Sixers held a 83-80 lead going into the fourth after Walker’s 3 beat the buzzer following an Oubre dunk with 3.7 seconds left.
