Toronto Raptors star forward Kawhi Leonard was scratched with left knee swelling about an hour before the team’s Sunday night road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Leonard has often experienced issues with both knees throughout his 15-year career. This is his first missed game since returning to the Raptors, whom he led to the 2019 NBA title.
Leonard missed the 2021-22 season for the Los Angeles Clippers due to an ACL tear in his right knee.
Leonard was acquired in the offseason from the Clippers. He is a seven-time All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP (once with Toronto, once with the San Antonio Spurs).
The 35-year-old Leonard averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals as Toronto won its first two games of the season. However, he shot just 32.4% from the field and made 4 of 14 3-point attempts.
