Golden State Warriors guard/forward Gary Payton II opted into his $9.1 million player option for next season, ESPN reported Wednesday.
By opting in, Payton will avoid hitting free agency, and he can now reach an extension with Golden State during the offseason.
Payton, 31, came off the bench in 44 games for the Warriors this past season, averaging 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds.
In 208 career games (40 starts) with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers and Warriors, Payton has career averages of 5.2 points, 2.8 boards and 1.1 assists.
