Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle has agreed to a multi-year extension, ESPN reported Thursday.
His team opened the season Wednesday night with a runaway 143-120 win against the Washington Wizards in Indianapolis.
It was the 897th win of a coaching career that includes two stints with the Pacers and an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks.
Carlisle, who turns 64 on Friday, has a record of 897-793 with the Detroit Pistons (2001-03), Pacers (2003-07, 2021-present) and Mavericks (2008-21).
He was the NBA Coach of the Year in 2001-02 and led the Mavericks to the franchise’s only title in 2010-11. He is the longtime president of the National Basketball Coaches Association.
