Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will be sidelined at least another seven to 10 days with swelling in his left knee, the team announced Friday.
The former league MVP missed the past six contests with a left foot sprain and will not make the three-game road trip to Indiana (Saturday), Milwaukee (Sunday) and Denver (Tuesday).
Embiid, 30, was evaluated after an on-court workout on Thursday.
“While the foot sprain has healed, (he) experienced an increase in swelling in his left knee following the workout. After consulting with team medical staff and external doctors, Embiid will receive treatment in the coming days to address the swelling,” the team said in a statement. “As a result, he will be OUT for the upcoming road trip and re-evaluated in approximately 7-10 days.”
Embiid has been limited to 13 games this season due to assorted injuries and a suspension for shoving a reporter.
The seven-time All-Star is averaging 24.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 29.5 minutes per game. Embiid is shooting a career-worst 45.2 percent from the field.
The Sixers (15-24) are 7-6 with Embiid in the lineup this season.
Embiid has career averages of 27.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 446 games (all starts) since debuting with Philadelphia in the 2016-17 season.
