San Antonio Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama and guard Devin Vassell have been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the visiting Portland Trail Blazers.
Wembanyama has been sidelined since sustaining a hyperextended left knee during San Antonio’s 134-132 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday. An MRI on Thursday revealed no ligament damage for the third-year player, who did not travel to Indianapolis for the Spurs’ 123-113 win over the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
In 21 games (15 starts) this season, Wembanyama is averaging 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Wembanyama, 21, was sidelined for 12 games from Nov. 16-Dec. 10 due to a left calf strain. Upon his return, he spent six games coming off the bench on a minutes restriction before rejoining the starting lineup last weekend.
Vassell, 25, will miss his third game in a row with a left adductor strain.
He has averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists while starting all 32 games in which he has played this season.
