Toronto overpowers Portland for third straight win

Sandro Mamukelashvili scored 22 points and Immanuel Quickley recorded 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help the Toronto Raptors notch a 110-98 victory over the host Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Brandon Ingram scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Scottie Barnes scored 11 of his 15 points in the final quarter and collected nine boards as Toronto won its third straight game.

Jrue Holiday recorded 21 points and seven assists and Shaedon Sharpe added 21 points and seven rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who had a four-game winning streak halted. Toumani Camara scored 16 points, Donovan Clingan had 13 points and 16 boards, and Caleb Love added 11 points off the bench for Portland.

Portland standout Deni Avdija sat out with a lower back strain. He has missed four of Portland’s last six games.

Toronto’s RJ Barrett had 10 points and six rebounds in 21-plus minutes in his return after missing the previous seven games with an ankle injury. Reserves Ochai Agbaji and Gradey Dick added 10 points apiece for the Raptors.

Toronto shot 52.9% from the field, including 9 of 29 from 3-point range (31.3%) while improving to 3-1 on a five-game road trip.

Portland trailed 98-94 after Love’s 3-pointer with 4:19 to play. Toronto ran off the next eight points with Mamukelashvili’s dunk giving the Raptors a 106-94 lead with 1:36 left en route to sweeping the two-game season series from the Trail Blazers.

Portland shot 39.8% from the field and made 13 of 45 from behind the arc.

Portland never once led in the first 33 1/2 minutes of the contest.

Holiday and Camara drained consecutive 3-pointers to tie the score at 63 with 6:29 left in the third quarter. Two-plus minutes later, Clingan knocked down a trey to tie it at 71.

Love’s layup gave the Trail Blazers that elusive lead at 73-72 with 2:23 left in the quarter. Toronto later took a 76-74 edge into the fourth quarter.

Portland led 78-76 after Clingan’s basket 52 seconds into the fourth quarter before Mamukelashvili and Jamison Battle connected on treys and Barnes added a dunk during an 8-0 burst that gave Toronto a six-point lead.

A short time later, Quickley buried a 3-pointer, Mamukelashvili drove for a layup and Ingram hit a mid-range jumper as the Raptors held a 97-87 advantage with 6:18 remaining.

Portland was just 4-of-26 shooting in a low-scoring first quarter led 19-12 at its end by the Raptors. Toronto led by as many as 13 in the second period before taking a 50-43 lead into the break.
