Trae Young, Dejounte Murray power Hawks’ win over Lakers

Trae Young and Dejounte Murray combined to score 50 points and the Atlanta Hawks had three players log double-doubles in a 138-122 win over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

Young made his first six 3-point shots and finished with 26 points and 13 assists, his 29th double-double of the season. Murray, who missed Atlanta’s

Sunday game due to right hamstring tightness, returned to score 24 points — 10 of them in the fourth quarter to help stymie the Lakers’ comeback attempt. Murray added nine assists.

Also getting double-doubles for Atlanta were Jalen Johnson (19 points, 11 rebounds) and Clint Capela (13 points, 12 rebounds). Saddiq Bey scored 18. The Hawks also got De’Andre Hunter back from right knee inflammation that had kept him sidelined since Dec. 6. He was limited to 16 minutes and scored six points.

The Lakers 28 points and six assists from Austin Reaves. LeBron James finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and Rui Hachimura scored 16.

The Lakers played without Anthony Davis (24.9 points, 12.1 rebounds), who sat out because of a left hip spasm and Achilles soreness. Jaxson Hayes, who averages 9.6 minutes per game, got his second start of the season and had six points and six rebounds in 24 minutes.

Atlanta led by seven on five occasions in the first quarter and was up 36-29 at the end of the period. Young scored 11 points in the second quarter and the Hawks took a 67-56 lead into intermission.

The Hawks grew their lead to 87-67 with 6:54 left in the third quarter and led 103-88 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lakers began to trim the gap and had a chance to get within single digits when Jarred Vanderbilt scored to make it 109-99 with 8:23 remaining and drew a foul on the play. But Vanderbilt missed the free throw and Los Angeles never got any closer.

Los Angeles had a bad night at the free throw line, making only 56 percent (14-for-25).

Los Angeles, which has lost two in a row, continues its six-game road trip on Thursday at Boston. The Hawks, who have won two straight, will host the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
