Trae Young powers Hawks past reeling 76ers

Trae Young had 37 points and 12 assists to lift the Atlanta Hawks past the host Philadelphia 76ers 127-121 on Friday.

Young made two free throws with 10.6 seconds left to give the Hawks a 125-119 lead.

Onyeka Okongwu added 21 points and Saddiq Bey had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks. Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 13 points and De’Andre Hunter chipped in with 11. Jalen Johnson had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hawks were missing Clint Capela (adductor) and Dejounte Murray (back).

The new-look Sixers had a much different roster after Thursday’s trade deadline.

Furkan Korkmaz, Marcus Morris Sr., Patrick Beverley, Danuel House Jr. and Jaden Springer were all dealt while Buddy Hield and Cameron Payne passed their physicals and were in the starting lineup.

Joel Embiid (knee) remains out along with Robert Covington (knee), Nicolas Batum (hamstring) and De’Anthony Melton (back). Tyrese Maxey was also sidelined with an illness.

Kelly Oubre Jr. led the Sixers with 28 points and 12 rebounds, Tobias Harris scored 21 points and Payne and Hield added 20 each. Paul Reed produced 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Sixers, who lost for the eighth time in nine games.

Oubre closed the Sixers within 123-119 after he hit a 3-pointer with 20.1 seconds left.

Payne hit a 3-pointer and the Sixers used a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 107-100 with 7:45 left.

Young scored the next six points for the Hawks, who led 115-104 with 4:55 left.

The Sixers didn’t wilt and trailed 117-111 with 3:50 remaining after a basket by Harris.

Okongwu threw down a dunk with 4:03 left in the second quarter for a 59-45 Hawks lead.

Bey hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 1:50 remaining to cap an 11-2 run for a 70-49 advantage.

After the Sixers scored seven straight, Young hit a trey and the Hawks led 73-56 at halftime. Young’s 18 points anchored the Hawks in the first half.

Reed had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Sixers.

Mo Bamba made a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2:26 left in the third to get Philadelphia within 97-81.

Atlanta led 103-86 at the end of the third.
