United States-regulated betting markets for NBA2K20’s Players tournament are being suspended due to concern about possible leaks of the results.
Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant was installed as the favorite of the tournament. He was also the top seed based on the overall player rankings in the NBA2K20 game itself, but lost a first-round match with Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. Though the match was thought to be broadcast live by ESPN, it actually was recorded, and offshore book Sportbetting.ag reported seeing minimal action on Durant. That sparked concern that bettors knew the results of other games before they were played.
“We initially made Durant the favorite to win the tournament but when …. the bets were completely one-sided toward Jones, it became obvious that someone knew the outcome of the game,” SportsBetting.ag odds manager Robert Cooper said in a Reuters interview.
With live sports on hold, more U.S. books were expected to seek regulation for esports/sports crossovers. New Jersey and Nevada books are approved to offer iRacing odds for this weekend’s NASCAR event, for which ratings have been through the roof.
International bettors still are able to place bets on overall winners — Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker is the 2-1 favorite — and on the four matches scheduled to air Tuesday on ESPN networks.
Booker is a 4-7 favorite over Washington Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura. Jones Jr. is favored 3-5 over Los Angeles Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell.
Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young is 5-2 and rates only behind Booker to win the event, per oddschecker.com. Young is a 1-2 favorite against Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton on Tuesday.
Clippers guard Patrick Beverley has 4-6 odds to beat Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond. Drummond was one of the favorites to win the event via Fan Duel Sportsbook. –Field Level Media (@FieldLevelMedia)
