After slow start, No. 19 Kentucky rallies past No. 15 Missouri

Missouri Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats

Otega Oweh scored 22 points and Koby Brea added 17 as No. 19 Kentucky defeated No. 15 Missouri 91-83 on Saturday in Columbia, Mo.

Andrew Carr had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Amari Williams added 14 points and eight rebounds as the Wildcats (21-10, 10-8 Southeastern Conference) finished their regular season by winning three of four games.

After shaking off a slow offensive start, the Wildcats finished 11-for-20 from 3-point range. They outscored the Tigers 26-14 at the free-throw line.

Mark Mitchell scored 22 points as the Tigers (21-10, 10-8) suffered their second loss in 20 home games and their fourth game out of five overall.

Marques Warrick (17 points) and Jacob Crews (12 points) were productive off the bench for Missouri as its comeback bid fell short.

Tony Perkins hit a 3-point jumper and converted a fastbreak layup as Missouri opened the game with an 11-4 surge.

Kentucky responded with an 11-0 run as Trent Noah, Brea and Travis Perry hit 3-point jumpers.

Josh Gray steadied the Tigers with a dunk off the low post, but the Wildcats pushed out to a 28-20 lead with Williams hitting four free throws and Carr scoring in the paint.

Mitchell scored four baskets at the rim in the final 2:08 of the first half, but Collin Chandler’s 3-pointer with two seconds left gave Kentucky a 38-29 halftime lead.

Kentucky knocked down 7 of 12 attempts from 3-point range in the first 20 minutes. Missouri missed 10 of 13 shots from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats stayed hot starting the second half, with Oweh and Carr hitting 3-pointers and Oweh scoring a transition layup.

Kentucky increased its lead to 53-37 with 14:11 left on a 6-0 spurt.

Warrick led a 10-0 run to cut the Tigers’ deficit to 66-61 with 6:26 left. He hit back-to-back 3-point jumpers and scored in transition off his steal, but Missouri got no closer than five points the rest of the way.
