Arizona State, which came close to upsetting No. 12 Texas Tech this week, hosts a TCU team that has won three of its last four games on Saturday in Tempe, Ariz.
The Sun Devils (12-12, 3-10 Big 12) have lost four consecutive games and nine of their last 11 games amid injury concerns. Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini was asked by local media about the future of coach Bobby Hurley with the program.
“Bobby Hurley is our coach until he is not our coach,” Rossini said on the Arizona Sports’ Burns and Gambo radio show Thursday. “It’s not a black-and-white conversation.
“I’m of the opinion that there is a lot of season left and I believe in Coach and this team and what we are capable of accomplishing here at ASU.”
In their 111-106 double-overtime loss at Texas Tech, the Sun Devils shot 55.6 percent from the field, 13 of 27 from 3-point range and 13 of 16 from the free-throw line but were outrebounded 38-27 and outscored 14-7 in second-chance points.
They played without freshman Jayden Quaintance, who was out after an ankle sprain suffered at Oklahoma State on Sunday. Quaintance is out indefinitely.
Adam Miller scored a season-high 22 points and Amier Ali added a career-high 18.
TCU (13-11, 6-7) is 1-6 in road games this season with the lone win against then-No. 25 Baylor on Jan. 19.
Arizona State is 1-5 in Big 12 home games, its only victory coming against last-place Colorado on Jan. 4.
Vasean Allette made a game-winning 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining to give TCU a 73-72 win over visiting Oklahoma State on Wednesday.
Allette led the Horned Frogs with 16 points and had a season-high seven assists.
“I don’t know the exact (Big 12) standings, but I know there are these teams that are up and we’re in the next tier,” TCU coach Jamie Dixon said. “We just keep battling. We’re not perfect. We’re going to keep battling and try to get better and get ready for Arizona State.”
Former Arizona State guard Frankie Collins is now with TCU but he is out for the season with a stress fracture in his left foot.
