Cameron Carr poured in 24 points, 17 of them in the first half, as Baylor used two huge runs at the end of the first half and midway through the second on the way to a 113-56 win over hapless Alcorn State on Friday in Waco, Texas.

The Bears (8-2) led by 25 points at halftime after a late 14-0 run, but they really put the game away by scoring 23 straight points over a five-and-a-half-minute span in the second half, stretching their lead to 84-34 with 12:20 remaining.

Baylor crossed the 100-point mark on a 3-pointer by Michael Rataj with 6:02 to play and cruised to the finish line, eventually leading by as many as 58 points.

Issac Williams added 21 points for the Bears, with Rataj scoring 18, Tounde Yessoufou hitting for 17, Obi Agbim racking up 14 and Dan Skillings Jr. tallying 12 points. Caden Powell grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds in the win, and Rata added 10 boards.

Shane Lancaster scored 17 points and Nick Woodard had 11 for the Braves (1-10), who have dropped three straight. Alcorn State has not yet played a home game this season.

The Bears used a 12-0 run during the first four minutes of the game, capped by a dunk by Williams, to build a 12-2 lead and set the early tone for the runaway. Alcorn State rallied to within six points on Bryson Calamese’s three-point play at the 12:11 mark of the first half before Baylor pushed its advantage to 30-14 when Rataj hit a free throw with 8:24 remaining in the half.

The Braves were still within 10 points after Omari Hamilton’s jumper with 3:42 to play until halftime. That’s when Baylor created real separation, reeling off the next 17 points — with Carr scoring nine of the points — to go up 55-28 before a final jumper by Lancaster with 20 seconds to play brought Alcorn State to within 55-30 at the break.

Carr racked up 17 points before halftime to lead all scorers, while Yessoufou had 11 for the Bears, who shot 63% from the floor in the first half. Lancaster lead the Braves with 14 points over the first 20 minutes.

Travis Roberts’ second-chance jumper two minutes into the second half kept Alcorn State within distant reach at 61-34. Baylor then scored the ensuing 23 points, turning a 27-point lead into an 84-34 advantage with 12:20 still to play.
