Micah Peavy scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and dominated with his defense as Georgetown ran away from Creighton 81-57, Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

In the Big East opener for both teams, Jayden Epps added 14 of his 21 points in the second half and Curtis Williams Jr. contributed 12 points off the Hoyas bench.

Georgetown (9-2, 1-0) snapped a six-game losing streak against Creighton, with each of the losses having come by double-digit margins.

In the second half, Peavy overwhelmed the Blue Jays with his length and defensive anticipation. In a span of less than five minutes, the 6-8 guard had four steals, each of which he turned into a breakaway slam dunk.

Peavy, a transfer from Texas Christian, finished with eight assists, eight rebounds and seven steals.

Georgetown overcame the absence of point guard Malik Mack, who sat out with a knee injury and is listed as day-to-day. Caleb Williams moved into the starting lineup and delivered six points and eight rebounds.

Steven Ashworth paced Creighton (7-5, 0-1) with 21 points. Jackson McAndrew scored 13 points, while Ryan Kalkbrenner added 10 points.

After winning their first four games, the Blue Jays have lost five of their last eight.

In the decisive stretch of the second half, the Hoyas outscored the Blue Jays 25-6 to turn a four-point lead into a 64-41 bulge with 8:32 left.

Drew Fielder started the run with five straight points and Epps added a pair of 3-pointers during the spree.

In the first half, Creighton got the lead four times, but on each occasion Georgetown responded.

On the last of those, after failing to score from the floor in a 7:25 span of the period as they missed seven straight shots and committed five turnovers, the Hoyas scored the final eight points of the half.

Curtis Williams and Jordan Burks started the dash with 3-pointers and Caleb Williams ended it with a putback as Georgetown took a 34-28 lead at the break.

The victory came four days after Georgetown won at Syracuse, with Ed Cooley calling it his best win in his two seasons with the Hoyas.

With the Creighton win, he may have a new favorite. Last year the Hoyas lost all their Big East games with the exception of a pair against DePaul.
