Justin Hill’s late heroics push Georgia past LSU

Justin Hill’s driving layup with 4.2 seconds left lifted Georgia to a 65-63 win over LSU in Southeastern Conference play on Tuesday in Athens, Ga.

Hill’s game-winner came just seconds after LSU’s KJ Williams gave the Tigers a one-point edge by sinking a jumper.

Hill finished with 10 points, while teammate Braelen Bridges scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half. Jabri Abdur-Rahim added 11 points for the Bulldogs, who have won two straight games.

The Bulldogs (16-10, 6-7 SEC) shot 22 of 50 (44 percent) from the field, including 6 of 21 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range.

LSU (12-14, 1-12) has dropped 13 straight games, its longest skid since a school-record 15-game losing streak during the 2016-17 season.

The Tigers were led by Williams’ 18 points and nine rebounds, while Jalen Reed added nine points and six rebounds.

LSU shot 20 of 52 (38.5 percent) from the field, including 7 of 23 (30.4 percent) from beyond the arc.

Georgia scored 15 points off the Tigers’ 19 turnovers, while LSU had 17 points off the Bulldogs’ 13 miscues.

After Adam Miller’s 3-pointer pulled LSU to within 62-59 with 3:20 left, Reed’s layup made it a one-point game with 2:16 to play.

Georgia’s Terry Roberts missed three free-throw attempts over a two-possession span before committing a turnover to give LSU the ball with 20.3 seconds left.

Williams hit a spinning one-hander in the lane for a 63-62 lead with 11 seconds to go. Hill responded by taking the inbounds pass and driving the length of the court and lofting a layup over Williams with seven seconds remaining.

LSU called timeout with four seconds remaining, but Hill stole the inbounds pass near midcourt, forcing the Tigers to foul him with 0.8 seconds remaining.

Hill split a pair of free throws to provide the final margin.

LSU took a 28-21 lead on Justice Hill’s layup with 4:35 remaining in the first half before Georgia’s Justin Hill closed the half with a 3-pointer and a layup that pulled the Bulldogs to within 28-26 at halftime.
