Nebraska, strong at home, tops No. 15 UCLA

UCLA, Nebraska

Brice Williams scored 16 points and Andrew Morgan added 12 as Nebraska continued to get the best of ranked teams at home with a 66-58 victory over No. 15 UCLA on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.

Rollie Worster scored 11 points and Juwan Gary added 10 as the Cornhuskers (12-2, 2-1 Big Ten) won their 20th consecutive home game to tie a program record. Included in that run are home victories against No. 1 Purdue and No. 6 Wisconsin last season.

Former UCLA forward Berke Buyuktuncel had nine rebounds with four points for Nebraska.

Tyler Bilodeau scored 15 points and Lazar Stefanovic added 10 for the Bruins (11-3, 2-1), who lost a game in their new conference for the first time. UCLA was just 4 of 28 (14.3 percent) from 3-point range one game after earning a victory over Gonzaga.

Nebraska used an 8-0 run to take a commanding 50-38 lead with 8:02 remaining. The charge started with a 3-pointer from Sam Hoiberg and included a three-point play from Morgan.

The Cornhuskers had an extended 11-2 run to take a 53-40 lead with 7:15 remaining. The Bruins did not make a field goal in the stretch.

UCLA closed within 58-54 with 51 seconds remaining after a three-point play from Kobe Johnson before two free throws from Worster put Nebraska up 60-54 with 48.8 seconds left. The Cornhuskers made five free throws in the final 24.3 seconds.

The Bruins opened the game on a 7-0 run, while the Cornhuskers did not score their first basket until a Williams 3-pointer after 4:22 had elapsed. Nebraska then went on a 15-0 run past the midway point of the first half.

In a see-saw first half, UCLA then followed with a 12-0 run, with the game tied 24-24 at halftime as both teams shot under 34 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

UCLA starter Eric Dailey Jr. missed his first game because of a facial injury. Sebastian Mack received his first start of the season and scored nine points.
