No. 16 Kansas leaves No. 8 Iowa State in dust, 69-52

Zeke Mayo scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and No. 16 Kansas cruised to a 69-52 win over No. 8 Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference showdown on Monday night in Lawrence, Kan.

Hunter Dickinson finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for Kansas (16-6, 7-4 Big 12), which bounced back after blowing a 21-point lead in its previous game against Baylor. Dajuan Harris Jr. added 12 points.

Tamin Lipsey, Keshon Gilbert and Joshua Jefferson scored 11 points each to lead Iowa State (17-5, 7-4), which has lost three games in a row and four of its past six.

Kansas shot 47.3 percent (26 of 55) overall and 50 percent (9 of 18) from beyond the arc. By comparison, Iowa State shot 30.6 percent (19 of 62) from the field and 14.3 percent (3 of 21) from long distance.

The Jayhawks also finished with a 15-3 advantage in bench points.

Kansas surged to a 35-19 lead at the half.

Iowa State cut its deficit to 14-12 after Curtis Jones made a jump shot with 10:51 remaining in the first half.

The Jayhawks responded with an 8-1 run to grab a 23-13 advantage with 8:22 to go before the half. Shakeel Moore and Mayo both drained 3-pointers during the run.

AJ Storr hit a 3-pointer to increase the Jayhawks’ lead to 31-17 with 2:15 to go in the half.

Iowa State never threatened in the second half. Dishon Jackson made a pair of free throws to cut the Cyclones’ deficit to 43-27 with 14:48 to go, but Mayo made a 3-pointer on the next possession to push Kansas’ lead back to 19 points.

Dickinson and Flory Bidunga followed with back-to-back layups to increase the Jayhawks’ advantage to 50-27 with 12:36 to play.

Demarion Watson made two free throws to bring Iowa State within 67-51 with 1:29 remaining.

Dickinson responded with a jump shot for Kansas to make it 69-51 with 1:17 to go, and Nojus Indrusaitis made one of two free throws for Iowa State to finish the scoring.
