No. 21 Louisville sinks Wake Forest for 10th straight win

louisville

Terrence Edwards Jr. scored 18 points and Reyne Smith added 16 as No. 21 Louisville blew past visiting Wake Forest 72-59 on Tuesday night, stretching its winning streak to 10 games in a bounce-back season.

Chucky Hepburn added 14 points and eight assists for Louisville (16-5, 9-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Hunter Sallis posted 13 points and Efton Reid III had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Wake Forest (15-6, 7-3).

Edwards and Smith both hit four 3-pointers as the Cardinals ended a three-game skid in the series with Wake Forest.

Louisville coach Pat Kelsey, a former Wake Forest assistant coach, saw his team excel in most areas for the first 30 minutes.

Wake Forest didn’t appear to have recovered from a home loss to No. 2 Duke on Saturday. The Demon Deacons had a seven-game winning streak halted.

The Cardinals didn’t let up, draining three 3-pointers, including two by Smith, in the first 4 1/2 minutes of the second half on the way to a 60-31 advantage.

Earlier, the Cardinals broke out to a 22-11 lead and expanded the margin to 45-21 at halftime. Edwards had 13 points by halftime.

By game’s end, Wake Forest had 15 turnovers, while Louisville had nine.

Much like three days earlier against Duke, Wake Forest had major offensive snags in the first half. Sallis scored nine of the Demon Deacons’ first 11 points but he didn’t score again in the half.

Louisville connected on eight 3-point shots in the opening half, while Wake Forest had eight total field goals before the break.

Wake Forest entered the night with a three-game road winning streak.
