Oregon State’s Tyler Bilodeau enters portal, Dexter Akanno also departs

Oregon State big man Tyler Bilodeau entered the transfer portal Wednesday and guard Dexter Akanno reportedly also is departing, according to reports on Wednesday.

The decisions come one day after leading scorer Jordan Pope entered the portal. Bilodeau and Akanno ranked second and third, respectively, on the Beavers in scoring this season.

Their exits reportedly increased the number of departed players to seven since the end of a 13-19 season. Center KC Ibekwe, forward Jayden Stevens and guards Christian Wright and Justin Rochelin previously departed, according to reports.

Bilodeau averaged 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in 32 starts last season, while Akanno contributed 10.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 30 games (25 starts).

“After much reflection, discussions with my family, and prayer, I’ve decided to enter my name into the transfer portal to explore new opportunities,” Bilodeau said on social media. “I am eternally grateful for my time at this university and within this program. It holds a special place in my heart.”

Pope led the Beavers in scoring (17.6), assists (3.4) and 3-point baskets (66).

The exodus is occurring at a time Oregon State faces an unclear basketball future due to the demise of the Pac-12. The Beavers will spend the next two seasons in the West Coast Conference.

Pope factored in the future while weighing his decision.

“After going home to spend time with family and having extensive talks about my future, my family and I have decided the best decision for my career moving forward is to enter my name into the transfer portal,” Pope said on social media.

Washington State, another program in limbo due to the end of the Pac-12, has reportedly had 10 players depart since the end of the regular season. The Cougars beat Drake in an NCAA Tournament game this season before losing to Iowa State in the second round and seeing coach Kyle Smith depart to Stanford.
