Oso Ighodaro scored 19 points and Olivier-Maxence Prosper added 17 as No. 25 Marquette handed sixth-ranked UConn its third loss in four games, 82-76, on Wednesday night in Milwaukee.
Kam Jones added 15 points for Marquette (14-4, 6-1 Big East), which has won five straight since a 103-98 double-overtime loss at No. 19 Providence.
UConn (15-3, 4-3) was coming off a 69-60 victory over Creighton after back-to-back road losses to Xavier and Providence.
David Joplin hit two free throws to put Marquette up 73-64, but Alex Karaban converted a three-point play to bring the Huskies within 76-73 with 49.5 seconds left.
Marquette preserved the lead by hitting 6 of 6 free throws over the final 36 seconds.
Freshman Donovan Clingan had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for the Huskies. Karaban added 17 points and Adama Sanogo had 10.
UConn dominated inside with a 35-29 advantage on the boards, a 44-34 edge on points in the paint and 11 blocks. But Marquette converted 16 turnovers into 20 points and tallied 24 fastbreak points.
The Huskies also made just 2 of 12 from beyond the arc in the second half.
Prosper was fouled on a 3-point attempt and hit all three free throws to put Marquette in front 65-58. Prosper’s follow-up dunk capped an 11-4 run that extended the lead to 69-62 with 4:35 left.
Marquette withstood a 16-0 run and a scoreless stretch of almost five minutes midway through the first half to get back within 37-33 at the break.
Tristen Newton’s layup capped the run that put the Huskies in front 31-20, but Marquette answered with nine consecutive points.
UConn had eight blocks in the first half, including four by Clingan in nine minutes.
