High Point head coach Alan Huss is leaving to rejoin the Creighton staff as its head-coach-in-waiting, ESPN reported Thursday.
Huss, 46, was Greg McDermott’s assistant with the Bluejays for six seasons (2017-23) before leaving to become head coach of the Panthers.
There is no specific timeline for the retirement of McDermott, 60, who has been the head coach at Creighton since 2010.
Huss has guided High Point to a 56-15 record in two seasons, winning back-to-back Big South regular-season crowns and leading the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament this March. They fell 75-63 to No. 4 seed Purdue in the first round.
Huss played basketball at Creighton from 1997-2001 before rejoining his alma mater as McDermott’s assistant coach in 2017. Huss was an assistant at New Mexico from 2014-17 after coaching in the high school ranks.
Creighton finished 25-11 in 2024-25, losing to top-seeded Auburn in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays are 350-171 under McDermott with 10 NCAA Tournament appearances.
