Ryan Agarwal’s hoop pushes Stanford past NC State

Stanford NC State

Ryan Agarwal dropped in a go-ahead layup with eight seconds remaining, Maxime Raynaud saved 21 of his game-high 25 points for the second half as Stanford survived a scare from visiting North Carolina State, 74-73 in Atlantic Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Raynaud led all rebounders in the game with 12 as part of a nation-leading 20th double-double for the Cardinal (16-8, 8-5 ACC), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Trey Parker had 19 points and five assists off the bench, but misfired on a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the final horn for the Wolfpack (9-14, 2-10, who lost their eighth straight.

After trailing by as many as seven points in the first half, Stanford went up 71-66 after a pair of Raynaud free throws with 1:43 remaining, only to see Dontrez Styles nail a 3-pointer and Ismael Diouf make a layup to draw the visitors even with 50 seconds left.

Aidan Cammann put Stanford back on top by making one of two free throws, but again NC State countered, with Parker following in a Styles miss for a 73-72 advantage with 17 seconds to go.

Agarwal got to the hoop for his eventual game-winner nine seconds later and the Cardinal held on.

Raynaud finished 7-for-7 at the free throw line and 9-for-16 from the field, helping the Cardinal outshoot the Wolfpack 50.0 percent to 37.7 percent from the floor.

Oziyah Sellers used 6-for-6 success at the line to account for half his 12 points, while Chisom Okpara and Evan Stinson chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Agarwal aided the cause with nine points, seven rebounds and a game-high eight assists.

Styles had a team-high seven rebounds to complement 18 points for NC State, which completed an 0-2 California trip after having lost Wednesday night at California. Eleven of Styles’ points came at the foul line in 14 attempts.

Parker drained five of his eight 3-point attempts, helping the Wolfpack outscore the hosts 24-12 from beyond the arc.

Marcus Hill added 14 points for NC State, which hasn’t won since Jan. 8.
