Virginia ends 2-game skid with win over Boston College

Reece Beekman collected 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds to help Virginia end a two-game losing streak with a 72-68 road victory over Boston College on Wednesday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass..

Isaac McKneely scored 14 points for the Cavaliers (21-8, 12-6 ACC). Jacob Groves added 13 points and was the only other Virginia player who scored in double figures.

Virginia scored at least 50 points for the first time in four games.

BC trailed 70-68 after a three-point play by Mason Madsen with 29.2 seconds to play, but McKneely capped the scoring by making two free throws with 25 seconds left.

Ryan Dunn had eight points and 13 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Quinten Post tossed in a game-high 24 points and had 10 rebounds for BC (15-13, 6-11), which has lost three in a row. Post, a transfer from Mississippi State, scored the 1,000th point of his BC career on a 3-pointer with 13:46 left in the second half.

BC took its first lead in the game on a Devin McGlockton dunk that put the Eagles up 40-39 with 12:52 to play. A traditional three-point play by McGlockton tied the game, 45-45, with 10:31 left.

The Eagles led 51-48, but Virginia scored the next 11 points and had a 59-51 advantage following a McKneely free throw with 4:35 remaining. The 11-0 spurt included two 3-pointers by McKneely and one by Groves.

The Eagles received 12 points and six rebounds from Jaeden Zackery, 10 points from Madsen and nine points from McGlockton. BC was 5 of 22 from behind the 3-point arc (22.7 percent).

BC played without backup point guard Chas Kelley (illness).

Virginia had an 11-2 lead early, and led by as many as nine points in the first half. The Cavaliers were in front 27-23 at halftime. Beekman led all scorers with eight points in the half.
