Tyler Harris scored 23 points, making all four of his 3-point attempts, as Washington snapped a six-game losing streak and earned its first Big Ten Conference road victory by defeating Minnesota 71-68 Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.
Great Osobor added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Zoom Diallo had 11 points and five assists for the Huskies (11-10, 2-8 Big Ten). Mekhi Mason scored 10, including two clinching free throws with 5.9 seconds remaining.
Dawson Garcia scored a game-high 28 points for the Golden Gophers (11-11, 3-8), who dropped their second in a row after three straight wins. Femi Odukale was the only other Minnesota player to reach double-digits with 10 points.
The Golden Gophers trailed by 10 at halftime but took a 52-51 lead with 8:13 left after Garcia scored 14 straight points for Minnesota. Washington pulled back ahead until Garcia made 1 of 2 free throws with 2:44 left to tie the score at 64-all with 2:44 remaining.
Osobor was fouled while trying to grab an offensive rebound and made one free throw to put the Huskies up 65-64. He added a tip-in that boosted the lead to three with 1:32 to play.
After turning it over on three straight possessions, the Golden Gophers got one back and pulled within 67-66 on Garcia’s layup with 12 seconds left.
Davis was fouled with 9.7 seconds to go and made both free throws to make it a 3-point game. Garcia missed two free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining and Mason converted his two attempts to put the Huskies up 71-66.
Garcia made a last-second dunk to cap the scoring.
Harris scored 15 points in the first half as Washington took a 40-30 lead at intermission.
A 3-pointer by Garcia sparked an early 7-0 run as the Golden Gophers took a 9-3 lead. A turnaround jumper by Diallo gave the Huskies a 24-23 lead with just under eight minutes left in the half. A putback by Wilhelm Breidenbach and a jumper and 3-pointer by Harris capped a 9-0 Washington spurt.
Harris and Mason closed the half with 3-pointers as the Huskies extended their lead to double-digits.
Garcia was limited to five points in the first half as he picked up two fouls and played just 10 minutes.
