Jacob Ognacevic, Zoom Diallo and Quimari Peterson scored 12 points apiece, leading Washington to a 72-57 win over Oregon on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
Ognacevic hit four 3-pointers as the Huskies (11-9, 3-6 Big Ten) never trailed for the entire game in putting an end to the Ducks’ four-game winning streak in the overall series between the two rivals.
Diallo had all 12 of his points in the second half.
Washington dominated on the glass for a 45-23 rebounding advantage, with an 18-1 edge in offensive boards. Former Duck Franck Kepnang had 10 points and 14 rebounds, including a powerful dunk early in the second half, and Hannes Steinbach added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Sean Stewart’s 15 points led the way for Oregon (8-12, 1-8). The Ducks took only 17 shots in the second half and made eight of them.
Oregon lost its sixth consecutive game. The Ducks were without injured stars Jackson Shelstad and Nate Bittle and will not have the two for weeks, if not the entire season in Shelstad’s case.
Washington halted a three-game losing streak.
After Washington went into halftime with a 15-point lead, the Ducks got only as close as 12 points behind. Wei Lin’s 3-pointer with 3:27 to play made it 63-50, and moments later Lin made three free throws to trim the Huskies’ lead to 65-53 before Kepnang’s dunk and Peterson’s triple put the game away.
Runs of 12 and 10 straight points helped Washington go into halftime with a 34-19 lead.
The Huskies made six 3-pointers in the first half, two apiece from Ognacevic and Wesley Yates III. Oregon made just 1 of 9 3-point attempts in the first 20 minutes and 7 of 25 shots (28%).
The Ducks were 3 of 15 from 3-point range for the game, while Washington knocked down 10 of 21.
