Harrison Waylee rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns as host Virginia seized control early, pulled away in the second quarter and set a school record with 700 total yards in a 55-16 rout of William & Mary on Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va.

The Cavaliers (2-1) scored on six of their first seven drives and rolled to their seventh straight victory in the series, spoiling the return of Mike London, who coached them to a 27-46 mark from 2010-15. Virginia eclipsed its previous record of 691 total yards set in 1968 against Davidson and held a 42-7 lead by halftime

Waylee scored three touchdowns for the second time in his career and first time since a double overtime win at Ball State when he was at Northern Illinois on Oct. 1, 2022. He scored on runs of 2 and 8 yards in the second quarter before ripping off a 97-yard TD run about 3 1/2 minutes into the third on the first play of Virginia’s opening drive of the second half.

Chandler Morris completed 13 of 19 passes for 149 yards before sitting the rest of the way after Virginia’s fifth scoring drive.

Noah Vaughn added 101 yards, including a career-best 54-yard run on a third down that set up Virginia’s fourth TD.

Kameron Courtney, J’Mari Taylor and Xavier Brown also had rushing TDs as the Cavaliers gained 379 yards on the ground.

William & Mary (1-2) was held to 263 yards and Carter Boyd punted nine times after the FCS program earned a one-point win over Maine last week. Tyler Hughes started and completed 5 of 8 passes for 93 yards in the first half before backup Noah Brannock finished up and scored on a short TD run in the third quarter.

Deven Thompson finished with five receptions for 108 yards, including a 79-yard catch for William & Mary’s lone TD of the opening half

After Courtney scored on a reverse and Taylor scored on a direct snap in a span of about 5 1/2 minutes in the opening quarter, Brown scored for a 21-0 lead early in the second.

Virginia gave up the Tribe’s lone TD on a blown coverage in the secondary with 13:01 left but Waylee scored his first TD with 9:27 remaining and Rogers hauled in a short pass from Morris with 6:01 left. The Cavaliers held a 42-7 lead by halftime after
Harrison scored from eight yards out with 1:59 remaining to cap a drive set up by Suderian Harrison’s 56-yard reception.
