Missouri WR Chance Luper (illness) to miss much of season

Missouri wide receiver Chance Luper will miss much of the 2022 season because of an undisclosed illness, coach Eli Drinkwitz said.

“Got a little bit of a personal update for us,” Drinkwitz said Thursday night after Missouri’s season-opening 52-24 win over Louisiana Tech. “This morning, Chance Luper encountered an illness and he’s going to be out for six to eight weeks if not longer. It was a really tough day for us. I was really proud of our team the way they responded.”

Luper’s father, Curtis Luper, is the running backs coach and was on the sidelines during the game.

“I know Chance was really disappointed,” Drinkwitz said. “He had such a beautiful fall camp and had earned the right to start tonight. For me personally, I’ve known Chance since he was really little, and I know he has great care with MU Health. He’s going to be fine. We’re all pulling for him.”

Chance Luper appeared in eight games for the Tigers last season as a redshirt freshman, starting four. He caught 21 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown.
