Ohio State OL Avery Henry reveals bone cancer diagnosis

Ohio State offensive lineman Avery Henry is set to begin treatment for bone cancer, he announced Monday on Twitter.

Henry, a freshman from St. Clairsville, Ohio, tweeted, “This isn’t the way I wanted to release this, but I know no other way. A couple days ago I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. I will fight this! I have never been a statistic and I never will! I want to thank my brothers and coaches for the endless support!”

Henry, a 6-foot-6, 309-pound player who joined the Buckeyes as a three-star recruit this year, did not see any action for the team in the 2022 season.

According to the Mayo Clinic, osteosarcoma most commonly hits teenagers and young adults. Treatment can involve chemotherapy, surgery or radiation therapy.

Fourth-ranked Ohio State is set to oppose top-ranked Georgia in a College Football Playoff semifinal at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31.
