Transfer quarterback Tristan Gebbia is headed to Ohio State, Rivals.com reported Tuesday.
Gebbia last played at Oregon State, and it was reported when he entered the transfer portal earlier this montk that he’d be seeking a medical redshirt to give him eligibility for a seventh college season.
The news comes just one day after Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud said he’s entering the NFL draft. Gebbia gives coach Ryan Day a veteran option for a Buckeyes program that will enter spring workouts with Kyle McCord and Devin Brown as the main competitors for the starting job.
The Buckeyes also will have incoming freshman Lincoln Kienholz on scholarship.
Gebbia, 24, was a four-star prospect in the Class of 2017, ranked the No. pro-style 9 quarterback by the 247Sports composite in the class. He initially signed with Nebraska, then transferred to Oregon State as a redshirt freshman ahead of the 2018, which he sat out due to NCAA transfer regulations. He missed the 2021 season due to a hamstring injury and attempted just 11 passes in reserve duty in 2022.
In all, he appeared in 12 games (five starts) for the Beavers, completing 128 of 200 passes for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns with four interceptions. He entered the transfer portal following the transfer of quarterback DJ Uiagalelei from Clemson.
McCord, a five-star prospect when he entered Ohio State, backed up Stroud for two seasons. In 2022, he appeared in seven games and was 16-of-20 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown.
Brown played 15 snaps as a freshman in 2022 but didn’t attempt a pass.
