South Carolina coach Shane Beamer had his contract extended through the 2027 season, the school announced Friday.
Beamer also had his base salary more than doubled in the extension that will pay him $33.125 million in base salaries over the next five seasons and was approved the South Carolina Board of Trustees.
Beamer was slated to make $2.75 million in 2023. According to The State, he will make $6.125 million in 2023, $6.375 million in 2024, $6.625 million in 2025, $6.875 million in 2026 and $7.125 million in 2027.
Beamer, 45, guided the Gamecocks to an 8-5 record in 2022 and is 15-11 in two seasons at the school.
“I am very grateful to President (Michael) Amiridis, (athletic director Ray) Tanner, (associate AD) Chance Miller and our Board of Trustees for their belief in what we are doing as a football program,” Beamer said in a news release. “I am so fortunate to be the football coach at the University of South Carolina. I’m very proud of what we’ve done the last two seasons, but it’s just the beginning. The best days of Gamecock football are about to happen.”
South Carolina created some noise in late November with back-to-back victories over then-No. 5 Tennessee and then-No. 7 Clemson. The Gamecocks concluded the season with a loss to No. 19 Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl.
“Coach Beamer has done a tremendous job as the leader of our football program,” Tanner said in the news release. “His passion and desire to excel on and off the field have inspired our student athletes and our great fan base. I am very excited about the synergy and trajectory of our football program. He knows what a high-quality football program should encompass. I am delighted that he is our football coach.”
Beamer is the son of Hall of Famer Frank Beamer, who is best known for his 29-year stint as head coach at Virginia Tech. Shane Beamer played for his father from 1995-99 and served on his coaching staff from 2011-15.
