Tennessee athletic director Danny White has agreed to a contract extension that will pay him $2.2 million a year.
The school announced the deal, which is for a six-year rolling term, on Wednesday.
“Danny White’s strong and innovative leadership of our athletics department has created a championship culture and excellence across all sports in record time,” chancellor Donde Plowman said in a news release. “He’s built the best team of athletics administrators in the country, a team committed to our student-athletes’ well-being and to winning with integrity. He has set audacious goals for Athletics and is exceeding every milestone.”
In White’s first two years at Tennessee, the Volunteers won six Southeastern Conference team championships.
White is credited for hiring football coach Josh Heupel, who has steadied the program after the tumultuous tenure of Jeremy Pruitt. The Volunteers finished the 2022 season with an 11-2 (6-2 SEC) record and the No. 6 ranking in the nation for its best finish in 21 years.
The men’s basketball team was ranked fourth in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.
The athletic department also has enjoyed success in fundraising under White, bringing in more than $361 million in donations so far since its five-year, $500 million campaign began in the summer of 2021.
White, 43, was the athletic director at Buffalo and UCF before moving on to Tennessee.
