West Virginia defensive back Aubrey Burks was taken from the stadium via stretcher in the second quarter against Kansas on Saturday after sustaining an undisclosed serious injury.
ESPN reported that Burks was transported via ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, a facility located at the end of the football parking lot.
There was movement in Burks’ hands as he was taken off the field.
Burks was injured at some point during a 13-play scoring drive by Kansas. There was no stoppage of play to signal an injury to Burks.
Play was later stopped with West Virginia about to punt with 4:40 left in the first half due to the stretcher being brought to the sideline and a Mountaineers player on the ground receiving assistance.
Burks was starting his 27th game and making his 33rd appearance for West Virginia. He had two tackles before leaving Saturday to raise his season total to 13.
Burks has three career interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
