Riley Tiernan scored the go-ahead goal in the 49th minute as Angel City took sole possession of first place in the National Women’s Soccer League with a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dash on Friday night in Los Angeles.
Sveindis Jonsdottir also scored a goal, her third in two games, and Angelina Anderson made two saves for Angel City (3-0-0, 9 points), which has won its first three games for the first time in club history.
Maggie Graham scored and Jane Campbell made one save for the Dash (2-1-0, 6 points).
Houston kept Angel City bottled up in its own zone for most of the first half while taking a 1-0 lead, holding the home team without a shot on goal and finishing with an 8-2 edge in shot attempts.
Graham gave the Dash the lead in the 10th minute with her fourth career NWSL goal. Avery Patterson set up the score with a cross into the middle of the box that Makenzy Robbe headed to Graham, who then headed the ball into the net from the right side of the 6-yard box.
Houston, which opened the season with back-to-back shutouts over the San Diego Wave and Boston Legacy FC, then allowed two goals in two minutes early in the second half.
