Anna Moorhouse’s record-setting effort helps Pride top Bay FC

Pride, Bay FC

Barbra Banda scored in the 84th minute and Anna Moorhouse set a league record for single-season shutouts as the unbeaten Orlando Pride notched a 1-0 victory over Bay City FC on Friday night in San Jose, Calif.

Moorhouse recorded six saves while notching her record 12th shutout. She has four straight shutouts and eight in the past nine matches.

Banda scored on a header as Orlando (15-0-6, 51 points) stretched its NWSL-record undefeated streak to 22 straight matches. The Pride began the streak by winning their season finale last season.

After Orlando went ahead, Moorhouse made stops on Rachel Hill’s left-footed shot in the 87th minute and Dorian Bailey’s left-footer in the 89th minute.

The winning goal was Banda’s 13th of the season and it was set up by Carson Pickett.
Pickett delivered a cross to Banda, who flicked the ball toward the net. It landed on the short hop just in front of the net and glanced off the hand of Bay City’s Katelyn Rowland and into the net.

Expansion Bay City FC (8-12-1, 25 points) had their three-match unbeaten streak (2-0-1) halted. Rowland made six saves.

Banda had five opportunities in the first half to land a goal but repeatedly came up empty.

Rowland saved Banda’s hard left-footed shot in the third minute. In the 19th minute, Rowland stopped a right-footer by Banda.

Banda sent a right-footer wide right in the 24th minute, a left-footer wide left in the 37th minute and a right-footer wide left in the 45th minute.

Hill had two first-half chances for Bay FC — her right-footed shot went wide right in the eighth minute and her left-footer was stopped by Moorhouse in the first minute of first-half stoppage time.

In the second half, Banda was wide left with a header in the 72nd minute and had a right-footer saved by Rowland in the 80th minute. After her goal, she had a right-footed shot in the third minute of second-half stoppage time that was saved by Rowland.
