Colorado Avalanche goaltender Scott Wedgewood left Thursday night’s game against Buffalo with an apparent right-leg injury.
Wedgewood was hurt just over a minute into the third period when Sabres forward Zach Benson was battling with Avalanche center Parker Kelly near the Colorado goal. Benson fell back into Wedgewood’s right leg, and the goaltender went down inside his net.
Play continued and Benson scored seconds later to give Buffalo a 4-2 lead.
Wedgewood was helped off the ice and went to the locker room after making 14 saves. He was replaced by Mackenzie Blackwood.
Wedgewood, 32, was acquired from Nashville on Nov. 30. He came into Thursday’s game with a 4-2 record and a 1.93 goals-against average in six games — five starts — since the trade.
