Tampa Bay running back Chase Edmonds and wide receiver Rakim Jarrett are likely to start the season on injured reserve, Buccaneers coach Todd Boles said Saturday.
Both have been out with unspecified injuries — Edmonds since early in training camp, and Jarrett has missed the last two preseason games.
“Chase Edmonds will probably start there, as well (as Jarrett),” Bowles said. “Those two for sure. Everybody else is in play.”
All NFL teams must cut their current rosters from 91 down to 53 by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. In the past, players on injured reserve before the 53-player roster are out for the entire season. New this year, teams can designate up to two players who are on IR at the 53-player cutdown as eligible to return this season.
Those two players, or any on IR after the cutdown, are required to miss a minimum of four games, which is where Edmonds and Jarrett could fit in the team’s plans.
Edmonds, 28, had 49 carries for 176 yards as well as 14 receptions for 81 yards in 13 games in 2023, his first season with Tampa Bay.
A fourth-round selection by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL Draft, Edmonds has 450 career rushes for 1,972 yards and 11 touchdowns and 158 catches for 1,159 yards and six TDs in six seasons with the Cardinals (2018-21), Maimi Dolphins (2022), Denver Broncos (2022) and Bucs.
Jarrett, 23, was an undrafted free agent in 2023 who played in 10 games for Tampa Bay and caught four passes for 60 yards.
